Backdating conception: two common paths

People usually ask “when did conception happen?” after they already have an LMP date or a due date on a chart. Those are two inputs for the same backward estimate. From LMP, add the days to ovulation. From due date, subtract the pregnancy length to that same ovulation sketch.

Luteal peel (not a locked day 14)

A textbook 28-day cycle with a 14-day luteal phase puts ovulation on day 14. Many cycles are longer or shorter. This sketch uses conception ≈ LMP + (cycle length − luteal length). Changing those two numbers moves the estimate on purpose so “always day 14” cannot hide.

Keep luteal at 14 and raise cycle length from 28 to 32. Ovulation offset becomes LMP+18. Fixed day-14 math would miss that.

Look-back fertile band

Fertilization can follow sex that happened days earlier because sperm can survive for several days. The look-back band sketches about five days before the estimated ovulation/conception day through that day. It is dating context, not proof of a single fertile moment and not a contraception tool.

Cross-check LMP and due date

IVF and assisted cycles often start from a known retrieval, fertilization, or transfer date. The known path treats your entered date as the dating anchor and derives implied LMP and due date for literacy only.
