Organizers advertise a prize pool. Players care about a finishing place — a share of what remains after rake. Those are not the same number. A $10,000 pot with a top-heavy ladder still pays third place a few hundred, not a tenth of the headline by default.
This page’s framing is Pool ≠ place. The panel still shows the pot, then refuses to skip the ladder.
That is a different job from esports salary (Stipend ≠ stack for annual comp) and from sportsbook odds tools. Here we stay on event structure math — not tips or expected value bets.

Gross pool is entrants × buy-in. Rake is the organizer cut. Net pool is what the ladder distributes. Zero-rake presets show Pool equal to buy-ins; online structures often take more. Gross ≠ net on solar is about incentives; here the cut is operational rake — same family of honesty, different product.

The unique affordance is an editable place ladder (% of net) with live dollar bars. If percentages do not sum to 100%, the board normalizes for dollars and warns — fix the sheet before you print brackets.
Field size chips via entrants (2–16) resize the ladder. Presets load local 8-man, flat 4-man, deep online 16, and zero-rake teaching shapes.

Pick a focus place to answer Pool ≠ place in one readout: dollars, share of net, and premium versus an equal split of paid places. Top-heavy ladders show large positive premium on first; flat ladders shrink it.

Scenario A — Local 8-man. Load the preset. Focus #1 vs #3 — same pool, different places. That is Pool ≠ place.
Keep buy-in fixed. Raise rake from 0% → 15% and watch every place dollar shrink together.
Scenario B — Flat 4-man. Premium vs equal split shrinks. Structure feels fairer; first still leads, but the gap is modest.
Scenario C — Online 16. Deep ladder + higher rake. Focus #4: still paid, far from the headline pool.
Scenario D — Zero rake. Gross equals net. Useful when teaching that rake — not just the ladder — changes place dollars.

The prize pool is the pot. A finishing place is a share of that pot after rake. Headline pool dollars are not what second place (or any place) receives. The ladder and focus place make that gap visible.
Rake is the organizer’s cut of gross buy-ins before prizes are paid. Net pool = entrants × buy-in − rake. Zero rake means Pool equals total buy-ins; positive rake means the prize board is smaller than the entry money collected.
The panel normalizes shares to 100% for dollar amounts and flags the raw sum. Fix the ladder for production events; normalization is only so the board stays readable while you edit.
