Kitchen math has two honest families. Volume asks how much space an ingredient fills (teaspoons, cups, milliliters). Weight asks how much mass it has (grams, ounces). A cup of flour and a cup of honey share a volume word and not a gram number.

“Cup” is not one global volume. A US customary cup is about 236.6 ml. Many metric recipes treat a cup as 250 ml (roughly 5.7% more). Small for a splash of water; loud in a cake formula that stacks cups.
When your amount involves cups (or a sizable cup-scale volume), the panel peels both interpretations. That is not a churn-style compound monthly peel and not a tip fairness gap. It is a labeling trap for international recipes.

Volume mode converts only among kitchen volume units. Weight mode converts only among kitchen weight units. No silent density assumption. If you need cups to grams, the panel sends you through density mode with an ingredient, on purpose.
